The list of activities for the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia

In the framework of the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, organizations for the rights of LGBTI people in Albania, Aleanca LGBT and Pro LGBT will organize some activities.

The activities will begin on May 14 with the annual ride against homophobia. In social networks is launched an awareness and encouraging campaign for the participation of LGBTI persons in ride, with the slogan #Kurajo(courage). While the main political message of this year, according to organizers, will be one for equal rights for the LGBT families.

Another symbolic event on May 14, will be painting the concrete stairs in the entrance of the dike of the artificial lake with rainbow colours together with a group of environmentalists #PerPubliken. The event will begin at 18:00 and will be followed by a candlelight installation titled “Out of the Closet”.

In the forenoon of May 16, activities will be moved to the city of Vlora where with the support of Vlora Youth Centre, the documentary ScaNdal will be broadcasted at the University of Vlora and will be followed by an open discussion.

Like every year, Aleanca LGBT and Pro LGBT will also share prices “Ally of the Year” by assessing 10 characters / initiatives that have helped somehow the LGBT community in Albania.

This year will be considered figures like Dewi van de Weerd – Ambassador of the Netherlands, volunteers of “Peace Corps” for informational and educational meetings in all the cities of Albania, Sonila Luzi – a psychologist who has worked with some critical cases of LGBT persons.

The activities will continue on May 17, with “Poetry Festival” during the day and an evening party at one of the premises in the former block.

Activities in the framework of the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia will end on 20 May with the charity evening “Embrace the diversity, support the progress”. Event organized by Streha, the first residential shelter for young homeless LGBT persons. The gala evening will be held at the Palace of Brigades./A.A.
